De-Young International School was established on 10th January 1988 by Mr. B.J Onyemah, who nurtured the idea of imparting knowledge to children who will, in turn, contribute positively to the society and to the nation.

The School started with 3 staff headed by Mr. Onyemah, Miss Perpetua as the Headmistress and four students in a single room at a temporary site. Due to the importance of education in the life of children the motto of the school was “EDUCATION IS POWER”.

In 1992, the Lagos State Ministry of Education approved the running of the school and instructed that the name should be changed. Hence, the name was changed from “DE-YOUNG INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL” to “DE-YOUNG NURSERY & BASIC SCHOOL” and the motto became “KNOWLEDGE IS POWER”. Though the school was in its Prime Stage it experienced rough and challenging times especially at Ebute, Ikorodu, Lagos State where the closest school insisted the De-Young school be moved to another site to avoid stiff competition and any inconvenience.

The management later relocated the school to Olu-Odo Village, Off Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu with Mr. Edward Cudjo as the Headmaster and Mr. J.E Aihoon as the Assistance Headmaster. other teachers were Mr. Mensha, Mr. Mochiah, Mr. Falode, Mrs Sule and Mr. Justus (non-teaching staff)etc. Unfortunately, the road was inaccessible because of the poor state of the road at Olu-Odo. Driven by the passion for producing future leaders and outstanding individuals, the school moved to another site at No 1, Muyibi Ipaye Street, Aga, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

There the students were subjected to rigorous academic, physical and moral training. The efforts of the teachers were complement with the excellent result produced by the students at the end of their examinations at various levels. Most of the students at the end attended Federal Government Colleges, they also won several competitions at both local government and state level, and De-Young School was graded as “A” school by Lagos State Ministry of Education.

These outstanding qualities moved most of the parents to advertise the school in their various localities. Presently, the school has grown and its staff strength has risen from the initial numbers to over thirty, the students are over three hundred and it is now located in its permanent site at No.22 Oluwakemi Street, Off Ikorodu Club Road, Aga, Ikorodu, Lagos State for which the management is grateful to God.

Because of this progress and idea to further instill knowledge to children, the founded taught it would be important to introduce a secondary education to continue to vision of the school. Therefore, De- Young Secondary school was established. This passion came into existence on September 16, 2006. With the name De-Young International College and with the Motto: “STAND FIRM IN GOD”. DE-YOUNG COMPREHENSIVE COLLEGE is located in its permanent site at No.18 Oluwoga Street, Along Ikorodu Club Avenue, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

In 2007, at the completion of the first session, the Lagos State Ministry of Education directed that the name should be henceforth be known as DE-YOUNG COMPREHENSIVE COLLEGE. The numerical strength of the members of teaching and non-teaching staff at that time were twelve(12) and was headed by Mr. Gabriel who acted as the Acting Principal. Some of the pioneering staff includes Mr. Adeyemi Habeeb, Mrs. Ozim Patricia, Mrs. Oduyebo, and Mrs. Olayoju. These people worked together as a team till October 2nd, 2007 when Mr. Odumbo Taiwo took over the leadership position as the Principal of the college.

However, there was need for creation of awareness of the institution to the public so as to increase the number of both staff and students. The principal, Mr. T. Odumbo led the staff and student to the public to advertise the institution. This act yielded fruit as the numerical strength of the students rose from fifty to over two hundred for which the management is grateful to God despite all the challenges faced.

This great institution believes that each child that passes through this noble institution must be disciplined in all aspects of life. That is why the students are exposed to mental, physical and spiritual development. The result of these trainings are seen in the students dedication to their studies and their loyalty to the constituted authorities and staff as a whole.

It is also manifest in the outgone student who are found in various institutions of higher learning both within and outside Nigeria such as Alokolaro Esther and Okusanya Olamide studying Medicine in Russia and U.S.A respectively. Others are in notable schools in Nigeria.

Furthermore, we believe that education goes beyond classroom, hence our students are engaged in outdoor activities. We have contested in a number of competition such as Cowbell, Mathematics Competition, Spelling Bee, Football Competition, Indomie Competitions, and recently the Deputy Head boy who is a member of Lagos State contingent volleyball team won a gold medal at the conducted South-west games held in Lagos State. In all these we have recorded success, for these we are thankful God.

In other to achieve excellent performance we place utmost priority on the quality of our staff and on our admission process which has been upgraded to enable us admit quality student. In fact, there have been lots of improvement in all aspects of the institution.

The management is also grateful to Mr. Cudjo, who served the school diligently for over 10years. Mr. Mochiah and the current headmaster Mr. Duru M.C and Mrs. Sule who has spent over 13years with the school, Mr. Taiwo Odumbo and all those who have work and are still working for their selfless service and loyalty.
